The Power of Words by QueenofInnocence
The Power of Words

What was your first reaction when looking at these words? Were you surprised, shocked, or even offended? Well these words were chosen to make you realize how cruel they really are. We hear these words so often in a conversation, and yet we are not really affected when we hear them; but when we see them written down in gigantic bolded typefaces, it makes us realize their significance. These words stem from the problem of bullying and without people realizing how harsh they really are, this problem will never be fixed.  Each composition consists of a neutral background, and a bolded capitalized text, which was positioned in the center of each page in order for the font to be emphasized.  But my pieces not only comment on the unkind words we use to bully others, it also reveals societies misuse of words. I have added photos within each word to represent their real meaning, rather than what people assume it is. By having doing this, this makes viewers second-guess themselves as to what the word truly means. The word fuck really means an act of sexual intercourse, rather than how people use it to express their anger, while the word pussy means a cat; not a women’s vagina. The term hoe is considered to be a long handled gardening tool used for weeding, and the word asshole means anus. As well, the word gay is someone who is lighthearted and carefree, not a homosexual man. To sum up things, society needs to take a second look of what they are saying to others and really understand if what they are saying even makes sense.

The Loss of Time by QueenofInnocence
The Loss of Time

Time is said to be endless where it doesn’t have a beginning or end. Time never waits for anyone; when you feel like your life is over, time just keeps moving on. Many people choose not to value how much time they have and then miss out on many opportunities. Hence, for my composition, I have chosen to create a piece that represents the misfortune of how people do not take control of time and use every second to their advantage. The numbers in my piece are out of order to represent how people lose track of time and never really accomplish what they want in life. The main emphasis within my piece is the girl wearing clock glasses and this symbolizes how one can just watch their life pass them by without actually living. There are vertical lines throughout my composition to symbolize how when people are wasting their lives doing nothing, they are basically locked behind bars with no reason to escape, while the textile texture in my piece represents the time passing by. The color scheme I have chosen is red, using shades of pink to symbolize the lack of will power one would have to use their time wisely. People always complain how they never have enough time to do the things they desire, but that is not true. If one plans accordingly, they will be able to live their life to the fullest.  Time flies by and never returns, so if you waste time, it wastes you.

Mother Earth by QueenofInnocence
Mother Earth

Mother Earth

Since the beginning of time, women have been seen as people who are metaphorically associated with nature and who play a huge role in evolution. They are viewed as “Mother Earth”; for example, the unplucking of a women’s flower is an essential connection to nature. Women have been possessed with qualities that involve physical requirements to make the world function: eating, sex, cleaning, and the care of children. It is the women who take care of daily life so that the men can go off into the world we call rock. Hence, for my composition I decided to make a piece about the human nature of women. I was inspired by an artist named David Lachapelle due to his use of colorful, vivid, and extroverted style that’s portrays elements of fantasy and mystery.  Women play a major part in our stages of our existence and for that we should be thankful.
